Q
Month long stays only?
( New Zealand - Visitor Information)
We recently tried to book self-catering accommodation for two weeks on the North Island. Despite finding several suitable properties in a number of different locations, we were turned down in every instance because we only needed two weeks and all of the available properties would only book for a month. My question is: Is this the standard letting period in New Zealand? Do all self-catering properties there require a month's booking? Is this something that's particular to New Zealand?

Month long stays are certainly not the standard in New Zealand. In fact, it would be considered unusual. Accommodation providers are entitled to set their own terms and conditions though, so it may be that there is some sort of long-term event on at the time, or you are attempting to book some sort of unusual accommodation type.
