Lake Rotorua Gay Friendly
Lake Rotorua is the largest lake in the district and the most productive trout fishery in New Zealand. The city of Rotorua is sited on its southern shore, and the town of Ngongotaha is at the western edge of the lake. Due to geothermal activity in the area, Lake Rotorua has a high sulphur content that causes the lake water to have an unusual yellowish-green hue.
Sitting in the centre of Lake Rotorua is Mokoia Island - probably New Zealand's best-known lake island, and is closely associated with one of the best-known Māori legends, that of Hinemoa and Tutanekai.
