Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island, known as New Zealand's 'island of wine' is a favoured holiday destination with a very large number of Auckland holiday homes. Waiheke Island is located about 18 kilometres from Auckland in the gulf and is the second-largest island in the Hauraki Gulf after Great Barrier Island. It is an ideal destination to relax and enjoy its fine wines, wine tours and many other attractions. Waiheke Island is easily accessed via regular ferries and domestic flights. Waiheke Island was also named in the Lonely Planet's top ten places to visit in 2016. more
Waiheke has a small population of less than 10,000 inhabitants but during the summer season it is a very popular holiday spot with many Auckland holiday makers coming to relax in this island paradise. During summer, Waiheke Island's accommodation such as its holiday homes and baches may be full and functions, festivals and dance parties come alive as visitors come from all over the country and overseas.
Many visitors come to Waiheke Island to enjoy its fine wineries and wine tours. The island’s climate is well-suited to Bordeaux wine-type grapes and the local winegrowers regularly win awards for their Syrah. Wines tend to be relatively expensive due to the size of the vineyards.
