West Coast - Seddonville Self Catering
Seddonville is an area on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The Old Ghost Road trail finishes here at the Rough and Tumble Bush Lodge where the mouth of the Mokihinui River leads out to the Tasman Sea. The settlement is lightly populated and known for the historical role it played in New Zealand's coal mining industry. Located about 50km north of Westport in the Northern Buller Region, Seddonville is surrounded by native bush, mountains and wilderness. One end of the Charming Creek Walkway is located at Seddonville. Seddonville was named in honour of the legendary Liberal Premier Richard Seddon. It was also the site of an early experiment in state socialism – New Zealand’s first state-owned coal mine opened there in 1903.
