Armstrong Peugeot Festival Of Cycling – 6 & 7 December 2008
In just three years the Armstrong Peugeot Festival of Cycling has doubled in size. In 2008 we're hoping to tip 2000. 2008 is a case of old and new, tried and true. The established favourites—the 80k Armstrong Peugeot Harbour Ride Armstrong Peugeot City Criterium—are still centre stage. Last year's Avanti Long Bays Classic for pro/elite riders, and the SBS Kid's Mini-Bays are here to stay, but the big news is the return of the New Zealand Criterium Championship again. With New Zealand doing so well on the track at Beijing, you can expect to see homegrown Olympic medallists going hammer and tongs around the ever-popular Oxford Terrace circuit...(more)

The Press Christchurch Writers Festival - 4 - 7 September 2008
The largest number of international writers to ever attend a South Island writers' festival will read, discuss, debate and entertain with topics as diverse as Cook's abilities as a cartographer through to modern day migration, Middle East conflict to women in modern China, the art of science through to the art of painting. There will be sessions and panel discussions at the Christchurch Town Hall, exhibitions at Canterbury Museum and Christchurch Art Gallery, a song-writing panel, a political theatre satire, a visit to Dame Ngaio Marsh's house and plenty more. The venue is Christchurch Town Hall mostly, but some sessions are at the Christchurch Public Library and at the Great Hall from the Christchurch Arts Centre...

'Secrets' revealed Auckland Museum's hidden mysteries - 12 July 2008
Auckland Museum is opening the doors on its 'never been seen' collection, giving the world an opportunity to discover its hidden treasures. To celebrate this collection, the public exhibition 'SECRETS REVEALED: The backstage mysteries of your Museum' will open on July 12th. "The heart of this exhibition is really about story telling, not just showcasing this unique collection, but sharing the stories and tales that go with each object," says Auckland Museum's new director, Dr Vanda Vitali. "It's a chance to reveal to Auckland some of the many exceptional items the Museum has currently in storage, and to let the public know how the museum takes care of them".

SBS Marathon - 1 June 2008
Since 1974, the fast, flat streets of Christchurch have been home to one of the world's fastest marathon courses. The SBS Marathon - Christchurch was inspired by the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games marathon, and today runners and walkers from all over the world can experience that historic route. Every year on Queen's Birthday Sunday more than 4,000 entrants stop the South Island's largest city in its tracks. The scenic and super-fast tour of the Avon River and Hagley Park has official road closures, and competitors are supported by more than 300 volunteers and thousands of Christchurch city residents cheering from their front gates.

Golden Guitar Awards - May 2008
Every year for the past 34 years, Gore has hosted the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards. This event has attracted artists from around the world and continues to grow in stature and popularity. Audience levels reach over 5,000 and the entries in all sections and events total 700 competitors.
